Valentine’s Day is almost here. And like every year, this year too, ‘youngistaan’ has been preparing different ways to celebrate the special day. By the way, it is always a good idea to surprise your Valentine. So, how about celebrating this Valentine’s Day a bit ‘hatke’? We have the perfect way to make the day a memorable one for you.
Meet Pankaj Jha and his friends. Pankaj is currently pursuing his PhD in Delhi and has translated several songs to Sanskrit. It’s astonishing how beautifully he sings a popular song of the 90’s film – ‘Aashiqi’ in Sankrit – Dheere Dheere Se Meri Zindagi Mein Aana Dheere Dheere Se Mere Dil Ko Churaana Tum Se Pyaar Humein Kitna Hai Jaane Jaana Tumse Milkar Tumko Hai Bataana.
The significance of Sanskrit in Pankaj's life was limited to just reading and teaching but a small incident changed his outlook towards the language.
Pankaj narrates the incident:
“I organise ‘Sanskrit spoken’ summer camps. There was an 8-year-old boy, Satyam in my camp. He once casually asked me, ‘A lot of people teach these ‘shlokas’; we read them in our textbooks and in our prayers but what’s innovative about the Sanskrit language?’
“I asked him, ‘What sort of innovation do you want?’
“He replied, ‘If Bollywood songs could be sung in Sanskrit, then I would understand the innovation of the language.’ At that moment, the song, Dheere Dheere Se Meri Zindagi Mein Aana was playing. I listened to the song for the next ten minutes. And in the next 12 minutes translated the entire song into Sanskrit.”
This is how his musical journey in Sanskrit began.
Within no time he translated several evergreen songs into Sanskrit. Pankaj also passed the art to his juniors.
