A suicide bomber detonated a bomb near the security headquarters of the Prophet’s mosque in Medina, Saudi Arabia, killing four security officials while five others were injured. The bomber died in the attack as well.

The Prophet’s mosque in Medina is the second holiest site of pilgrimage for Muslims.

The blast followed other suicide attacks in the city of Qatif and Jeddah on Monday. Photos circulating on social media showed dark smoke rising from flames near the mosque.

Qatif is home to many members of the Shi’ite minority; at least one, possibly two explosions struck near a Shi’ite mosque.
