Republic TV Reporters & JNU Students Get Involved in Verbal Spat

A clash erupted between reporters of news channel Republic TV and students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on the afternoon of Tuesday, 19 November, about half-an-hour before a scheduled press conference regarding Monday’s protest.
Students agitated against the news channel after it alleged that the protest on Monday led to massive public inconvenience, including ambulances being stopped.
A Republic TV reporter also interjected repeatedly during the press conference, asking questions about those “who were not able to reach AIIMS” because of the protest.
On Monday, the first day of Winter Session, JNU students took out a protest march to the Parliament against hostel fee hike and other restrictive rules.
Top police officials denied having used any force.
According to the police, around 30 police personnel and 15 students were injured during the protest in which thousands of students participated from different universities across the national capital.
Earlier on Sunday, Ministry of Human Resource Development appointed a three-member committee to recommend ways to restore normal functioning of JNU.
