Pie Throwing Enthusiasts Take Part in World Custard Pie C’ships

Large crowds flocked to the Kent village of Coxheath on Saturday for the World Custard Pie Throwing championships.

Now almost half a century old, this event has attracted interest from around the world and nowadays it’s not just a day out for the ‘eccentric Brit’.

Last year saw team ITTE-Q from Japan taking part and winning the main prize, and they were back to defend their title.

Despite the chaotic nature, World Custard Pie Throwing’s governing body has laid down a few rules.

Matches take place between two teams of four over a set time and with a finite number of pies at their disposal, with competitors required to stand behind their tables, but that rule was ignored by every team this year.

Japanase team ITTE-Q got to the semi-finals but were outthrown by ‘Three Men and a Pie’,

But ‘Three Men and a Pie’ could not reproduce the form that eliminated the defending champions though and ‘The Custardeers’ were declared the winners.
