#NotMyPresident: American Minorities Fear Trump’s Presidency
American minorities are not welcoming the idea of a Trumpian world.
What happens when an Empire fights back? What happens when those who have been subjugated for centuries rise up and fight for their rights? What happens when those who have unused ammunition in their armoury are provoked beyond breaking point?
Hopefully, revolutions are born.
Minorities in Fear
Dawn Ennis, a transgender woman, was certain of a Clinton victory when she set out to vote on election day. Trump’s antics had primed the ground for his decimation, she thought. The results however, made her feel vulnerable. She fears her right to her gender may fall into the doldrums with this administration in power. She fears her own and her family’s safety.
Ali Rizvi, a Pakistan-American filmmaker and journalist feels doubly at risk after Trump was elected President. He fears that because of his occupation and ethnicity, he will be twice-targeted.
Wardah Khalid, a Pakistani-American, wants to fight for her constitutionally-guaranteed rights. Instances of violence have shot up after Trump was anointed.
Incidents like these have heightened her fears about the impending presidency.
“What will children emulate?”, wonders Lauren Brownlee, a secondary school teacher and a Director of Social Action. Brownlee is sceptical of the precedence that Trump will set. The already growing acts of violence have startled her. She hopes to keep the message of peace and diversity going with her students.

The prospect of his presidency is scaring the world, especially American minorities who stand to be most affected. Let’s hope he listens to establishment Republicans and drastically transforms his rhetoric, or a minority uprising may be on the cards.
