After days of intense speculation on who will be declared the next UP CM, the BJP picked Yogi Adityanath for the top job in Lucknow on Saturday.
The Hindutva poster boy, who is the current mahant (head priest) of the Gorakhnath Mutt, is a five-time party MP.
A controversial figure in Uttar Pradesh politics, Adityanath has considerable clout in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The MP is also the founder of the Hindu Yuva Vahini, a right-wing group with significant popularity.
Adityanath will take oath as UP Chief Minister on Sunday.
