Residents of a village in Uttar Pradesh beat up a leopard to death after it injured four people and caused panic in the area.

According to local media reports, villagers of Dilari in Moradabad district of the state had been complaining to local forest department officials about leopard menace but no action was taken to contain the same. After the leopard injured four people, the villagers armed with sticks surrounded the leopard and killed it by repeatedly striking it.

The increasing human population has depleted the habitat of wild animals, forcing them to stray into human settlements in search of food. Wild animals like leopards, panthers and elephants often cause extensive damage, even claim lives and at times get killed when they venture into villages.
