The month of November is observed as Transgender Awareness Month to increase visibility of this marginalised section of the population and to address the various issues which the community faces.

The purpose of the campaign is to create awareness about transgender persons and persons who do not conform to gender, while also addressing the issues that are associated with their transition or identity. The Quint, throughout this month, aims to build towards a shared understanding of becoming a transgender ally.

A transgender person is one whose preferred gender identity does not align with his/her biological sex assigned at birth. These trans individuals constantly experience a sense of disconnect: they feel that they are “stuck in the wrong body”. This gives rise to a fundamental disconnect, along with extreme psychological, emotional and physical distress. These cis-gendered individuals are unable to demonstrate their feeling to the outside world and feel foreign in their own skin.
