Syrian Boy Clicked in Iconic Aleppo Photo Has Now Recovered
In the image, Daqneesh was seen sitting stunned, covered in blood and dust at the back of an ambulance.
Omran Daqneesh, the three-year-old Syrian boy whose bloodied photograph became an icon of war-torn Aleppo has recovered from his injuries. In his first media appearance since the fateful day a year ago, Daqneesh is seen playing with his siblings and appears to be in good health.
After an airstrike destroyed his home in August 2016, Daqneesh’s images were globally circulated where he is seen sitting stunned, distraught and covered in dust and blood at the back of an ambulance.
Mohammad Kheir Daqneesh, Omar’s father criticised the media and the ‘White Helmets’ group for exploiting his son’s photograph which was taken without his consent. He claimed that rather than attending to his son’s injuries immediately, the group was more focused towards clicking his picture.
Omran’s elder brother, Ali had unfortunately lost his life in the same attack. The family now lives in the government-controlled section of the Syrian city.
