‘A Void That Can’t Be Filled’: Politicians Remember Sushma Swaraj

The mortal remains of former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj were consigned to flames on Wednesday, 7 August, at the Lodhi Road crematorium in New Delhi.

Talking to reporters, Home Minister Amit Shah said, “It’s a huge loss for the entire political fraternity. Her demise has left a void in Indian politics, which we will not be able to fill for a long time.”
Amongst those who paid their respects to Swaraj at her Jantar Mantar residence were Vice President M Venkiah Naidu, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, BJP working president JP Nadda, Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, BSP chief Mayawati, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Ghulam Nabi Azad as well as CPI(M)'s Brinda Karat.
"We had a relationship of a brother and sister and she maintained cordial relations with leaders of other parties. She did a wonderful job as a foreign minister," said Azad.
