Anshul Chhatrapati, son of journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati, welcomed the CBI court verdict against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan. Ramchandra Chhatrapati was the journalist who published an anonymous letter accusing the Dera chief of wrongdoings. He was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants on 24 October 2002.
Anshul said that the court’s verdict was satisfactory.
He said that irrespective of the quantum of punishment, the judiciary has made it clear that Ram Rahim is a criminal.
Special CBI court judge Jagdeep Singh awarded a ten-year sentence to Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who was convicted on Friday in a 2002 rape case in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail. The ‘godman’ – or prisoner number 1997 at the Rohtak jail – has been kept in solitary confinement in a cell big enough for 12 prisoners.
