Days after he was appointed chief of AIADMK’s Legislature Party, E Palanisamy on Thursday took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the third in three months. O Panneerselvam, whom he ousted, too has staked claim to form the government.

A floor test will be held on Saturday, whichwill decide Palnaisami’s – and OPS’ – fate. But the new CM seems to have the upper hand. Handpicked by the now-jailed party General Secretary VK Sasikala, Palanisamy claims to have 124 MLAs with him.

30 other cabinet ministers were sworn in by Governor C Vidyasagar Rao on Wednesday. But how long will this new government last? Only the floor test will tell.
