Peacock, Or Rather, Peahen Walks Into a Wine Shop

What if we tell you that a peacock walked into a liquor store? You'd think it's a joke, right?

Only, this time the peacock did indeed saunter into a liquor store in the Los Angeles area on Monday afternoon. The liquor shop named Royal Oak Liquor Store in Arcadia houses expensive wines and champagne. The liquor store owner did not even notice that the peacock was hanging out among an assortment of wine bottles until a customer finally spotted it. When the store manager Rani Ghanem tried to direct the bird out of the store, it flapped its way up to the top of a liquor shelf.

The manager was left with little option than to dial animal control helpline, and sure enough an officer of that dept did show up soon, armed with a net.

But it proved to be a tough task. As the bird evaded animal control, it destroyed more than $500 worth of wine, carelessly knocking over bottle after bottle.

Reports say peacocks (now a protected species in the area) was introduced to Arcadia after the town's founder, Lucky Baldwin, brought them over from India in the early 20th century. Today their population is around 60,000.
