The AAP government in Delhi on Saturday, 11 November, called off the Odd-Even scheme, just hours after the National Green Tribunal announced that the plan would be implemented from 13 November.

The government said that the scheme cannot work without women drivers and two-wheelers being given exemption – contradictory to the NGT’s no exemption policy.

The Delhi government had earlier announced that the scheme would be implemented in view of the worsening air quality in the capital region.

In light of the the two conditions by NGT on two-wheelers and women drivers, at the moment we are calling it off. We will go back to NGT on Monday. We’ll file a review petition for them to reconsider their decision regarding the two.

The NGT had said that Odd-Even must be implemented in Delhi-NCR every time PM 10 and PM 2.5 levels cross 500 and 300, respectively.
