Parents of Deceased Noida Teen Demand CBI Probe, Teachers’ Arrest

A private school in Delhi witnessed protests on Thursday, 22 March — two days after a 15-year-old student of the institution reportedly committed suicide at her Noida residence allegedly due to harassment meted out by two of her teachers, reported ANI.

A case was registered under Section 306 IPC (abetment of suicide) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) POSCO Act, against the principal and the two teachers of the school.

The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has also taken cognisance of the matter and a team is likely to visit the private school for inspection.

DCPCR has issued a notice to the school, its principal and deputy director education. The commission has asked the school to file its reply before 5 April with a status report, according to News18.

While staging a protest outside the Mayur Vihar school, the teen’s parents demanded a CBI probe in the matter.

I demand a CBI probe in this matter. The teachers here encouraged my daughter to commit suicide, and they should be arrested immediately. They should arrest the principal for threatening my daughter and physically assaulting her.

The victim’s body was discovered inside her room by her family on Tuesday, 20 March, evening. The family had gone out and when they returned they found the girl’s room locked. On breaking the door, they found the 15-year-old hanging from the ceiling. The girl was immediately rushed to Kailash Hospital, where the doctors tried to revive her but to no avail.

The police claimed that they are currently investigating the matter.

As far as I remember, 29 students have failed in Class 9 with the majority failing in maths, science and social science. Even in 9-D, the girl’s class, 6-7 students had failed. Now, was it done on purpose? Or was it that her answers did not deserve better grades? This is something that experts in the subject can answer. So, we are trying to get it re-evaluated.

Meanwhile, the principal of the private school said that the institution will cooperate with the probe agencies. He also said, “The school has been following promotion policies of CBSE. Let me make it clear that she had not failed, a re-test was scheduled.”

The school principal also clarified that there has been no case of sexual harassment in the school before.
