Would’ve Cut Off His Hands Had I Known: Mother of Alleged ISIS Man

Exclusive: “Punish him,” urges mother of Surat ISIS suspect Mohammad Kasim Stimberwala.

Two suspected ISIS operatives were arrested from Surat by the Gujarat Anti Terrorism Squad on 25 October, for allegedly plotting an attack on a Jewish synagogue in the Khadia area of Ahmedabad. The suspects were identified as Mohammad Kasim Stimberwala and Ubed Ahmed Mirza.

The mother of Kasim, one of the suspects, told The Quint that had she known about her son’s alleged terror links, she would have chopped his hands off to make him stay at home. Sabeena Stimberwala said that she had worked hard to single-handedly raise Kasim. I will never support anyone who is a traitor to the nation, she said.

While Stimberwala used to work as a laboratory technician with a hospital in Ankleshwar town, Mirza was a practicing lawyer with the Surat district court. He also owns a hotel there.

ATS sleuths believe that Stimberwala and Mirza are “highly radicalised by the fundamental ideology of the ISIS for the last many years and are actively planning to cause terrorist acts”.

The two were booked under IPC sections 120-A (criminal conspiracy), 121-A (waging or attempt to wage war against Government of India) and 125 (Waging war against any Asiatic power in alliance with Government of India) of the IPC, besides under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
