MLA Runs Away with Speaker’s Mace in Tripura Legislative Assembly
The marshals in the Assembly chased Barman; after half-a-minute of running around, managed to bring the mace back.
The proceedings at Tripura Assembly came to an abrupt halt on Monday as a TMC legislator ran away with the Speaker’s mace. The incident occurred while the members were debating about the alleged involvement of a ruling CPI-M leader in a sex tape scandal.
The Congress and Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLAs had approached the Speaker and started sloganeering against Tripura forest minister Naresh Jamatia. Suddenly, TMC MLA Sudip Roy Barman seized the Speaker’s mace and ran away with it.
The marshals followed Barman and after half-a-minute brought the mace back, before Speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath went to his chamber.
