On 26 April, the Jammu and Kashmir government ordered a ban on social media sites in the Valley for a period of one month or “until further notice” in the wake of the protests in the region.

According to the government order, 19 social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp and even Google, have been banned in the state.

Speaking to The Quint, youngsters in the state expressed concern about how the government had curbed their right to express or hold an opinion, and how the ban was absurd and meaningless.

From affecting businesses and personal rights to having no impact at all on the unrest that has gripped the state, Kashmiri youth assessed the implications of the ban.

They especially stressed on how such bans are usually not imposed in any other part of the country.
