On 16 May, Wednesday, Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala invited the BJP's Chief Minister designate BS Yeddyurappa to form government. This came hours after the Congress-JD(S) delegation met him for the second time, asserting majority and staking claim to form the government. The BJP has been granted 15 days’ time to prove majority on the floor of the Assembly.

Confirming BSY’s oath-taking ceremony on 17 May, at a press conference, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad slammed the Congress for attacking the governor.

Calling the Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala a ‘BJP puppet’, Congress accused the BJP of indulging in “oppressional 'Operation Kamal' at the Raj Bhavan.” JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy accused the governor of encouraging ‘horse-trading’ by giving the BJP 15 days’ time to prove majority.

The governor holds an exhaulted Constitutional office. He should not follow a perlist path which is illegal. He is bound by the SC judgment, he is bound to invite the leader of the alliance that has been formed and presented to him and represents majority of the members of the legislative assembly.

Reiterating the scenario of the Goa elections, Sibal said that it is the duty of the governor to abide by the Constitution. “What the SC said is a judicial precedent. The governor is setting a political precedent,” he said.

Congress also moved the Supreme Court against the Karnataka governor's move. The party sought a hearing on Wednesday night, on its petition against the decision.
