The first phase of polling will be held on Saturday, 30 November, in 13 Assembly constituencies of Jharkhand, a state with huge tribal population. Voting will take place across 3,906 polling stations, out of which 989 will have webcasting facilities, an Election Commission release said.

The notable candidates in the fray are BJP leader and Jharkhand Health Minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi, and Jharkhand PCC president and ex-IPS officer Rameshwar Oraon.

The BJP is contesting 12 seats in the first phase, while it is supporting Independent Vinod Singh from Hussainabad.

The opposition alliance patners JMM, Congress and RJD will contest in four, six and three constituencies, respectively.

Polling will begin at 7 am and conclude at 3 pm, the release said, adding, there will be separate queues for the differently-abled along with ramp and wheelchair facilities.

According to CVoter tracker, the ruling BJP may fall well short of a majority in the state.

The survey predicts an extremely close contest between the BJP and the alliance forged by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Congress, and Rashtriya Janata Dal.

According to CVoter’s tracker in November, the BJP may win around 33 seats out of 81 in Jharkhand, closely followed by the JMM-Congress alliance at a projected tally of 30 seats.

The CVoter survey predicts that Babulal Marandi’s Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) and All Jharkhand Students’ Union can play kingmakers, with a projected tally of six seats each.
