Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was conferred an honorary doctorate by Jamia Millia Islamia on Monday. The university’s relationship with Turkey can be traced back to as early as the 1920s during the ‘Khilafat’ movement.

However, a section of students opposed the university’s decision to felicitate President Erdogan. The students alleged that "he is involved in blatant human rights violations and has become a dictator in Turkey".

Erdogan has been associated with crackdowns on students and universities. By inviting him here, what message are you sending to the students of Jamia?
