Recently, the issue of Aadhaar has been in debate. Is Aadhaar safe? Is it mandatory? These are a few questions that are being raised on Aadhaar. The Quint’s Editorial Director Sanjay Pugalia spoke to the CEO of UIDAI, Dr Ajay Bhushan Pandey, and tried to get some answers.

Dr Pandey said that although it’s not mandatory to get Aadhaar, it is compulsory if someone wants to avail the subsidies provided by the government.

He also added that government has made an Aadhaar Act. Under this act, the privacy of an Aadhaar holder is protected by a 2048 bit encryption. Anyone who tries to breach the encryption is liable to punishment up to 3 years in prison.
