Haiti Protests Enter Fourth Day as People Demand President Resigns

Demonstrations engulfed the capital as protestors intensified their demands that President Moise step down.

Demonstrations in Haiti entered their fourth day as thousands of protestors took over the streets of Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince. Protestors set tyres and vehicles ablaze demanding president Jovenel Moise’s exit over skyrocketing inflation and the government's failure to prosecute embezzlement from a multi-billion Venezuelan program that sent discounted oil to Haiti.

“Since (Haitian) President Jovenel Moise has been in power he has been telling lies to the people. We live in hunger, in misery, we are not able to find food to eat.”

Protestors even stoned president Moise’s home on Sunday, 10 February, and clashes with police left a 14 year old dead.

“The country is terrible, they cannot continue to kill people like this, Jovenel must go.”

Organisers pledged more protests in the days to come, increasing pressure on President Jovenel Moise, who is calling for negotiations with the opposition.

While President Moise has said that he will not resign, protestors including the opposition leader Moise Jean Charles have vowed to not give up until he does. He has even said that if Moise doesn’t step down, then they will elect an interim president.
