Gurupurab was celebrated with much fervour in the national capital on Tuesday, 12 November, as devotees thronged gurudwaras to pay obeisance to Guru Nank Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, on his 550th birth anniversary.

People offered early morning prayers at shrines, which were decked with bright lights and flowers and as well as partook in langars and shabad kirtans.

A number of programmes were organised to mark the occasion. Volunteers further set up a free health-checkup kiosk and some stalls with spiritual books in the premises of the Gururdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib.

Devotees also paid obeisance at the historic Gurdwara Ber Sahib ahead of the birth anniversary of the first Sikh guru.

The highly revered Gurdwara Ber Sahib is where Guru Nanak got enlightenment at the end of the 15th Century.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will pay obeisance at the shrine later during the day. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur will also be present.
