Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani says that the BJP is confident of winning more than 150 seats in the upcoming state assembly elections, with a vote share of over 55 percent.

In an exclusive interview to The Quint’s Editorial Director Sanjay Pugalia, Rupani said that the BJP would script a victory in Gujarat similar to the one in Uttar Pradesh. No media house was ready to believe that BJP was going to win in UP, but it did, and that too with 325 seats or a three-quarter majority, he said.

On being asked whether the BJP is aiming to extend its vote share by diluting the support for opposition, Rupani said that BJP is only working along the idea of progress.

Dismissing claims of Rahul Gandhi’s rise in popularity in Gujarat, Rupani said the TV channels are only running petty stories around his itinerary when PM Modi is not canvassing across the state.

During the course of the interview, Rupani also discussed issues of job availability in Gujarat, the allegations of SEBI’s fine against him, and slammed the previous UPA government’s performance at the Centre.
