Wild Elephant Enters Residential Area After Midnight, Wreaks Havoc

The jumbo damaged property and pushed a car from a portico to the end of a compound before crashing it into a tree.

A wild elephant entered a residential area in Coimbatore in the middle of the night and caused damage to property. The jumbo crushed plants, uprooted plantain and mango trees and destroyed a fence. It also pushed a car from a portico to the end of a compound before crashing it into a tree. The elephant’s nighttime stroll was captured on CCTV.

One resident estimated the value of the property damage at Rs 1.5 lakh.

Locals complained that elephants make their way into the residential areas a few times every year. Locals believe that these elephants enter residential areas in search of drinking water. They have asked the Forest officials to take steps to prevent incidents like these.
