Watch: Family Forced to Carry Dead Body in a Rickshaw in UP
A policeman said the hospitals denied ambulance arguing that the services are not for the dead.
The family of a deceased man was forced to take his body in an open rickshaw for postmortem in Banda, Uttar Pradesh after ambulances were denied to them. His body was allegedly found on the railway track.
Sepak Diwakar Singh, a constable at the Government Railway Police (GRP), said the hospitals denied ambulance arguing that the services are not for the dead.
Several incidents of similar nature have been reported in the recent past. In Odisha, a man was forced to carry his dead wife on his back. In another incident, a man had to carry the body of his seven-month-old niece on his bicycle in Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh.
These recurrent incidents of government apathy raise questions on public services provided in the country.
Shamefully India’s public health expenditure was 1.4 percent in 2016-17, as reported by Press Information Bureau, Government of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
