As it put up a sterling performance in civic polls across Maharashtra including the cash-rich BMC, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said that BJP's victory resulted from a vote for transparency and demonetisation.

A jubilant Fadnavis, who spearheaded BJP's poll campaign, said the party's core committee will decide the future course of action in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). BJP won 82 seats.

The BJP also won the civic body polls at Pune, Nashik, Ulhasnagar, Akola, Nagpur and Amravati.

Next Mayor Will Be From Shivsena: Uddhav Thackeray

Shiv Sena secured a marginal lead over BJP in the BMC polls, with 84 seats.

However, Shiv Sena President seemed confident that the next mayor of Mumbai will be from his party. Thackeray added that his party base has grown and even Muslims, who have traditionally steered clear of Shiv Sena, have voted for them.
