Delhi has turned into a gas chamber, with a thick blanket of pollutant-laden smog covering the city. Even three days after Diwali, residents of the national capital are forced to inhale a killer mix of gases and pollutants.

Pune-based SAFAR said the north-westerly winds blowing from Punjab and Haryana, where stubble burning is in full swing, were to be largely blamed for the extremely high level of pollutants in the air. What’s worse, the situation will persist for at least one more day.

The stubble burning, coupled with hostile weather conditions like cool temperature and nearly zero wind movement, is among the major factors identified by experts for the spiking air pollution levels.

And here’s the real shocker: SAFAR’s mobile app put the capital’s air quality index at 473, slightly short of 500, the worst level.
