Do you know what was the objective of the note ban?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to “black money” 18 times in his maiden speech on demonetisation on 8 November, 2016. How many times did he refer to digitization, cashless economy or integration of economy? Not once.

The narrative of the note ban has slowly but surely changed over months. From a war on black money, the government gradually described this as a righteous war of the honest against the dishonest. Digitisation and a move towards a cashless economy were also introduced as intended objectives of demonetisation.

Did the common man accept this shifting narrative? You tell us.
