BJP Councillor Manish Kumar was caught on camera thrashing a sub-inspector who had come with a woman lawyer to eat at a hotel owned by the councilor in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut in the wee hours of Saturday, 20 October.
The sub-inspector had arrived at the hotel with the lawyer to have dinner. The police official and the lawyer reportedly got into an argument with a waiter there. Manish Kumar allegedly beat them up following the scuffle.
Manish Kumar was later taken into custody based on the written statement submitted by the lawyer.
There was an altercation yesterday. I was asked why I dared to beat him (the sub-inspector) up. But I did not beat him up. There was an altercation under the influence of alcohol. They (police) are not willing to interrogate the sub-inspector. They (police) are ignoring the fact that he (the sub-inspector) was supposed to be on duty at the fair but was at the bypass with a woman.

Police claim the sub-inspector has been sent to police lines pending an inquiry in the mater.
A case has been registered against Manish Kumar under Section 395 and 354 of the Indian Penal Code.
A sub-inspector had gone to a hotel with a woman. They were eating at the hotel when they had an altercation with a waiter. When the owner of the hotel reached, there was an argument with the owner too. Following the altercation, the owner of the hotel thrashed both of them. The police station was immediately informed of the incident. They were brought to the police station. Their medical tests were conducted. The woman had submitted a written statement, based on which we filed a case. We have taken the owner into custody. We are interrogating him. Investigation is underway
