Bridge Collapse in Goa’s Curchorem Kills 2, Several Injured

Two people were killed and several others reported missing after a bridge, connecting Sanvordem and Curchorem villages in South Goa, collapsed on Thursday.

The Portuguese-era bridge across the river Sanvordem, a tributary of river Zuari, has been closed to traffic for the last four years. The dilapidated bridge gave way after a crowd, of about 50 people, gathered on the bridge to watch rescue efforts to save the life of a man who allegedly jumped into the river in a bid to commit suicide.
