A liquor shop was allegedly vandalised by a mob in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra on Sunday. The group of women demanded that all liquor shops near their slums be shut. The women alleged that the proximity of liquor shops to the slums gave rise to instances of drunken misbehaviour.

Reacting to the recent Supreme Court judgement on closure of alcohol shops within 500 metres of all national highways, one protester noted that shops along the highways may now move inwards, leading to greater accessibility for tipplers.

Similar protests erupted in Moradabad where women demanded the closure of alcohol shops near temples and public arenas.
