It is a common practice in Bundelkhand, UP for farmers to abandon cows once they stop producing milk.

The stranded cows on the streets have resulted in increased incidents of road accidents. Moreover, thousands of cows have started grazing the fields, forcing farmers to closely guard their crops day and night.

To tackle this situation, people tried to build Gaushalas or cow shelters. But due to lack of funds from the government, it is impossible for the community to maintain these.
