Election fever has Gujarat in its grip and The Quint caught up with the newest Congressman in town, Alpesh Thakor. In a Facebook live, the OBC leader slammed the BJP government and said that the concept of the ‘Gujarat model’ is a myth, nothing more than a hollow promise.

‘Vikas’ is a myth for the poor, for the Dalit, for the farmer, for the OBC. I respect Modi a lot, but his Gujarat model of development is a failure. The farmers are in debt, the youth are unemployed. Government schools are in shambles and prohibition is a joke. What development are you talking of?

Thakor also said that the perception across the nation may be that the battle in Gujarat is between Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi, but the real contest in on the ground. He added that PM Modi will not become the chief minister of Gujarat even if BJP wins, so the leaders of Gujarat BJP should stop asking for votes in his name.

There may be a battle between PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi on the national level, but in Gujarat, Vijay Rupani or other BJP leaders have to answer – how long will they ask for votes in Modi’s name?
