Having waited for an ambulance for hours, the family of an ailing woman was forced to ferry her in a hand-cart for 8 kilometres to a nearby hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj.

The woman, who’s suffering from a kidney disorder, had recently undergone surgery at a private facility and had taken ill all of a sudden. The family tried calling the 108 helpline dedicated to ambulance services, but got no response.

Family members allege that upon repeated calls, an ambulance driver told them that he would ferry the patient, if only the family decided to take her to the Vinod Dikshit hospital.

Finally, in a desperate bid to save his wife, the ailing woman’s husband put her on a hand-cart and pulled it all the way to the government hospital.
