4 Coaches of Mumbai Local Derail, No Casualties Reported

Four coaches of an Andheri-Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus train on the Harbour line derailed near Mahim in Mumbai on 25 August. No casualties were reported in the derailment.

This incident is the latest in a spate of derailments that have plagued the railways in the country. The Puri-Haridwar Utkal Express derailed near Khatauli in Uttar Pradesh on 19 August. The derailment killed at least 22 people, while over 200 were reported injured. This was followed by the Azamgarh-Delhi Kaifiyat express derailing near Auraiya in Uttar Pradesh on 23 August. Though no casualties were reported in this incident, over 100 people were wounded.

Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu reportedly offered to resign on 23 August following the series of derailments.
