Contemporary slavery exists in multiple forms. It involves depriving others of equal rights and suppression of individual liberties for vested interests. The reasons are many – bonded labour, sexual exploitation, human trafficking, forced child labour etc.
According to the Global Slavery Index, 2014, the world has 35.8 million modern slaves and India tops the list.
