Lone Surviving Dog From 26/11 Explosives Sniffing Squad Is No More

13-year-old Caesar was suffering from chronic arthritis and depression caused by loss of his life-long playmates.

Caesar’s mortal remains were buried at an animal shelter in Mumbai on Thursday. 

The last of the four dogs who saved many lives while sniffing out bombs during the 26/11 attacks, died on Thursday at an animal retirement home in Mumbai’s Virar.

Caesar was suffering from chronic arthritis and was on medication. Notable animal rights activist and Caesar’s caretaker Fizzah Shah said that the 13-year-old Labrador was the most cheerful of the lot. But, Caesar was left lonely and suffered from depression after three of his friends, Sultan, Max and Tiger passed away earlier this year.

The national hero was cremated next to his three companions at the Fizzah Farms in Mumbai. Reminiscing about Caesar, Shah noted how sniffer dogs were left to themselves after reaching retirement.

On November 26, 2008, Mumbai had come under a terror siege , after a group of terrorists stormed into several locations, killing and injuring a total of 466 people.
