Kremlin’s Christmas Tree Gets Soviet Makeover

A large Christmas tree, decorated in an old Soviet style, was erected in the Cathedral Square inside the Kremlin.

A large Christmas tree, decorated in an old Soviet style, was erected in the Cathedral Square inside the Kremlin on Thursday.

The Christmas tree – also known in Russia as a New Year tree - was decorated with large colourful toys ordered specially,

“This year we decorate our tree in the style of Soviet retro. This style traditionally uses various colourful decorations. We ordered the toys for this tree specially from Russian manufacturers according to a special design,” the designer Natalia Prikhodko said.

During the Christmas holidays, thousands of children will take part in colourful performances in the square.
