In few months he will turn 100, but HS Doreswamy refuses to sit at home. This veteran of the struggle for freedom in Karnataka remains a prominent leader of state’s social movements, even at this age. Doreswamy, who entered the freedom struggle in his early 20s, says that as long as there is poverty and injustice in the country, his struggle will continue.

During the days of the freedom struggle, he started by supplying bombs to blow up government record rooms. However, he was inspired Mahatma Gandhi and joined the quit India movement and was subsequently jailed.

Following the country’s independence, he became a newspaper publisher and later devoted himself to social causes. Even at 99, he takes part in social movements, in some cases he even marches along with his comrades.
