‘Homeland’ Attack: A Battle Picked Carefully, Says Arabian Artist
Street artist talks about why they highjacked Homeland and accused the show of being racist and bigoted.
Artists got ‘Homeland is racist’ Arabic graffiti into the latest episode of ‘Homeland’, a popular, Emmy award-winning show.
Late on October 14, a trio of artists called Arabian Street Artists revealed that when Homeland hired them to “lend graffiti authenticity to a film set of a Syrian refugee camp on the Lebanese, Syrian border,” they used the opportunity to spray paint lines that slammed that very show.
Homeland was a battle that we chose very carefully. We knew that the show already has a reputation for racism and bigotry, and we did do our due diligence and watched episodes of the show and we found this to be very true. We chose it because we knew (that) to reach the amount of people required to disseminate this message, it would require such a medium.
