Farmer Suicides Due to Love Affairs or Impotence: Agri Minister

The Opposition slammed the Agriculture Minister’s insensitive reply to a question on rising farmer suicides in India.

In his written reply, the Agriculture Minister said, “According to NCRB, causes of suicide include family problems, illness, drug abuse/addiction, unemployment, property dispute, professional/career problems, love affairs, barrenness/impotency, cancellation/non-settlement of marriage, dowry dispute, fall in social reputation and unknown causes.”

However, the Minister later claimed that the Opposition is deliberately misquoting him.
