Reports from Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) show a drastic increase in pollution after Diwali celebrations across the country. Ahmedabad and Delhi are among the worst-hit areas. Thick clouds of smog were seen in parts of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh affecting visibility.

System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) had earlier predicted that the pollution levels this year after Diwali will exceed that of 2014 and 2015.
