The shutdown of the Darjeeling hills entered its 51st day on 4 August. Apart from medical stores, all shops, schools, colleges and offices have been under complete shutdown for almost two months now.

Why?

Because the locals of the Darjeeling district are demanding a separate State — Gorkhaland.

As the din of the Hills has been falling on deaf ears in the power corridors of Delhi, leaders of many Darjeeling parties arrived with their demands in the capital earlier this week. The Quint spoke with supporters of the movement about their demand for ‘Gorkhaland’.
