Bengal Kangaroo Court Forces Man to Cut Wife’s Hair
The local chief beat up the woman, after she failed to pay a fine of Rs 6000.

A kangaroo court in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district forced a man to trim his wife’s hair, after she failed to pay up a fine of Rs 6,000 for eloping with another man.
The incident took place at Chandpur village near Noada, as the local chief sought to punish the 32-year-old woman for bringing disrespect to the community. Apart from shaming her in public, the men beat her up with canes.
The woman has now registered an FIR with the local police against seven people, three of whom have been booked for abetting the crime.
