Another Escalator Tragedy in China Results in Man Losing a Leg

A man’s left leg was amputated after it got trapped in a mall’s escalator while he was cleaning it, in Shanghai.

Due to another escalator tragedy inside a mall in China, a worker had to lose his leg. The accident took place on Saturday at the Cloud Nine Shopping mall in Shanghai.

The CCTV footage of the accident shows, 35-year-old, Zhang Shisheng cleaning the escalator when his mob got stuck between the metal floor panel and the top of a mall escalator. This flipped the panel and his left leg got trapped inside.

Zhang pressed the emergency button and stopped the escalator and was rescued by firemen 20 minutes later. He was taken to a local hospital where his foot was amputated the next day.

The escalator that was built in 2004, had only recently passed a safety check.

The accident, the fourth such case in last six days, led to fear and outrage among people.
