Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah accused the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samajwadi Party of using the Dalit community as a vote bank.

In his address on Friday at Dhamma Chetna Yatra Samapan programme in Kanpur, Shah said that Mayawati has done nothing for the welfare of the Dalits in Uttar Pradesh.

He also claimed that Mayawati or the Indian National Congress has not done anything to respect Dr BR Ambedkar, rather it was the BJP who decided to bestow the Bharat Ratna upon him.

He took a dig at the SP, saying that when they can't handle their problems at home, they cannot govern the state.

Shah said that the Dalit community can't have progress under the SP or BSP leadership.

The BJP president's address was another attempt of the party to reach out to the Dalit community in UP which goes to poll next year.
