We finally have an official confirmation from WhatsApp, admitting that the popular messaging platform did go down for an hour on Friday morning.

The downtime was discovered by various users from across the globe, who flooded Twitter with their frustration. With over 1 billion active global users, the Facebook owned platform has been adding new features to the app for both Android as well as iOS users.

Here’s what they said regarding Friday’s downtime.

Earlier today, WhatsApp users globally had trouble accessing the app for about an hour. This issue has been fixed and we apologise for the inconvenience

It’s intriguing to see that due to the major time difference (based out of the US), WhatsApp has taken so long to respond on the matter. They haven’t also revealed why the issue popped up in the first place, but we’re sure that an internal enquiry into the matter must be in the works at their headquarters, as we speak.
