The Facebook-owned messaging service WhatsApp was down for several hours across different part of the world as many users were not able to send or receive messages.

According to website tracking application downdetector.in, WhatsApp was down since 12:48PM IST but now the bug seems to have been resolved.

Social media has been flooded with a barrage of posts from multiple users who said they were not able to send or receive any messages since the morning.

According to outage tracker Down Detector, regions in Europe, South Africa, Southeast Asia and China were the most affected.

The last few months haven’t been too good for Facebook as its social media sharing platforms have crashing all over the place. Only last week, there were as many as 5,545 reports of Instagram crashing.

No reports of this anomaly have emerged from India or its neighbours. India currently has the largest user base of the messaging application in the world so it’s a bit of a surprise that things were smooth in this part of the world.
